Birthday Decoration Ideas for Kids Party

For every parent, their child’s birthday is a special occasion. They want to organize a fun, exciting birthday party that will bring a big smile to their kid’s face, creating long-lasting memories. But arranging and managing parties at home is not easy. There are lots of important things one should keep in mind while planning birthday parties at home.

  • The Decoration theme – get it approved by your child or select according to your child’s interest.
  • Space available – rearrange your furniture if required.
  • Budget, another important factor to be considered before every planning.
  • Guest list etc.

  • Today, one can easily plan the best party even at home as their are lots of party planners who can offer the best possible to you. But if you are inclined towards craft and don’t want to spend much, you can also go with DIY party decoration . Just collect various stuff available in the local market that fits best to your occasion. You can buy these birthday decoration items online and get them delivered at home.

Firstly plan your budget. Picking a theme for your child’s birthday party. Theme based bday parties have lots of advantages,

  1. It makes it easier to decide the kind of material required for the decoration.
  2. It is possible to create enjoyable party games, beautiful invites and decorations by being creative and imaginative without spending much.
  3. If theme is your kids favourite, it will bring a huge smile to their faces. Invitations/ Return favours

Design a theme-based invitation card for the online invites. Engage your child with some hand-painted DIY invitation cards. We made simple stamping cards. Use DIY theme printed paper bags to make your guests happy with the return favours of your choice. There are lots of options available in stores where you can customize (I will share the link at the end of this article) but I personally prefer DIY ones.

Backdrop

Walls are a major attraction of guests for birthday parties, so they should be considered primarily while planning. Besides balloons, one can use paper flowers, a huge collage made from photographs hung with strings of fairy/colourful lights, cutouts of theme-based pictures, Foil/crystal curtains to lighten your party.
You could go for customized balloons with pictures on them or add theme-based foil balloons. Use stands/ backdrop frames to hang balloons creatively.

Happy Birthday Banner

Banners for birthday decoration are available in a variety of materials, from paper to fabric(eco-friendly). Foil balloons banners are most common these days. But I personally like theme based paper banners. One can use Happy birthday neon lights to add glamour.

Balloons

Balloons are synonymous with birthday decorations and the best part is they come in plenty of colours, sizes, shapes and materials (latex and foil). There are air-filled balloons, helium-filled balloons(outdoor parties only to avoid explosions), LED inside glow balloons and glitter balloons confetti and even many more. From lying on the floor to a random pattern on the wall, balloons look attractive everywhere. U can decorate your space the way u want with balloons. This time I have used foil ballons of various vehicles to create a beautiful backdrop.
Metallic foil number ballons related to the age of the birthday person is also a good option for decoration.

Tissue pom-pom

Pom-poms of tissue paper add a celebratory colourful punch in decoration for the birthday party. Add like a garland that can be hung from a wall, window, or even dessert/centre tables, or even looks great at the celings.

Table decoration

The place where the cake will be kept must be aptly dressed up. Opt for a subtle coloured table cloth, table skirt or theme-based table cloth. Can be decorated using pompoms, pinwheels, Theme based
cutouts or placing a centrepiece. 3D monograms are the latest trends. You can buy them from various resources or make them on your own.

The main door/entrance our your house is also an important part of the decoration as it is visible first when a guest visits the house. But don’t make it too loud; and decorate it without obstructing the movement at the door.
Decorate Ceiling with ballons and also with theme-based squils or even pinata bags.
Go with photo boots, creating a single theme-based booth or small multiple props . Use pinata bag to reveal surprise.

Organize a treasure hunt game with clues here and there or plan quick games for kids. Book a magician for the party who can amaze the kids with his tricks.

Use caketoppers, cupcake toppers to decorate your deserts. Make theme based deserts. I made car cookies and trafic light cakes to lighten my son’s party.


Hosting a party is not an easy task, taking help from your little ones. This will creatively engage them for hours and also will bring the happiness and joy of celebrating birthdays.
